Chichen Itzá, a world UNESCO heritage site, and its great pyramid, “El Castillo” was named as one of the “Seven wonders of the world,” which has put this impressive Mayan ruin site, 2nd as the most visited ruins in México, after the Tulum ruins. Nevertheless, it is perhaps the most impressive site with amazing structures such as the famous “Great Ball Court,” “El Caracol,”or the observatory at Chichen and many others.
One of the greatest sites that occurs is on the spring and autumn equinoxes, when the serpent, known as Kukulkán, uncoils itself alongside the great pyramid or “El Castillo.” Thousands of visitors flock to this site annually to catch a glimpse of the Mayan’s mathematical expertise from the sun’s lineup on the pyramid and to feel the spiritualness and ways of the Mayan civilization. Chichen Itzá is located in the Yucatán. It is approximately, 3 hours from Playa del Carmen but certainly well worth the drive
