• Got Jazz?

December 1-3, 2016, are this year’s dates for the annual Playa del Carmen’s Riviera Maya Jazz Festival, changed from the usual last week in November dates.

While the change of dates is excellent planning on the staff of the Festival, as it is the Thanksgiving holiday in the US, Black Friday, as well as the last week of hurricane season, don’t expect any change in the level of entertainment and excitement. This year, the 14th edition of the Riviera Maya Jazz Festival, will not disappoint!

So how global is the annual festival? Well, since I have been in Playa del Carmen, I have seen some amazing talent kick up the sand at Mamita’s Beach, home of the annual event, such as: Poncho Sanchez, the late and gifted George Duke, George Benson, David Sanborn, Wayne Shorter, Kool & the Gang, Pat Methany, Chick Corea, Earth, Wind & Fire, along with some gifted homegrown artists like Aguamala, Natalia Lafourcade, and Hiram Gomez.

This year’s event that starts on Thursday December 1st and ends on Saturday, December 3rd, includes: Aguamala, Bill Evans, drummer Steve Gadd, Armando Montiel, Jeff Lorber, Dirty Loops, coming from all the way from Sweden, and a beloved group, Blood Sweat & Tears, just to name a few. Mamita’s Beach is located on 28th street and the beach, in the heart of Playa del Carmen. Gates usually open around 6:PM. B.Y.O.B., your chairs, and snacks and enjoy Jazz under the stars, alongside the Caribbean Sea. The event is kid-friendly and super cool!
